Poor Plankton

I've heard that Shouting Boy has removed Plankton's eye. I'll find out how much work he needs shortly.

Granny square repair

I was asked to repair an old granny square blanket. Upon inspection, I saw that I had to either unravel the blue yarn that bordered the entire blanket in order to remove and fix the seven different ruined squares, then recrochet the blue border, or attempt to patch each square without removing it. I elected to patch. Pay no attention to the lower right hand corner of the "fixed" square. I was so busy listening to Adam Lambert sing "A Change is Gonna Come" that I lost track of what I was doing. By the time I realized my mistake, I had gone too far to want to go back to repair the repair. It looks okay if you don't look too closely.
I fixed all seven squares. It's not something I'd like to do again anytime soon, and I'm afraid, with the thinness of the yarn that was originally used, more holes are gonna come.

Maybe we should put him back where we found him.

These little fence lizards are cute. They show off to me by doing multiple push-ups in the sun...

These alligator lizards are not as adorable.

Colonial Girl Costume

Girlie: We're doing an American Revolution project at school. I want to be a colonial woman. Can you make me a costume?

Me: I can try.

Girlie: And I want to show the class how to make a quilt.

Me: Well, I don't know about a quilt...

Later that evening....

Me: I was looking on the internet about quiltmaking during colonial times, and it seems
like only the upper class women were able to have quilts made. How would you like to show the class how to make a hornbook instead?
Girlie: Then I'll be an upper class colonial woman. Can we work on the quilt now?

With my construction paper hornbook shot down, and armed with extremely limited sewing skills, a Hello Kitty sewing machine and a hot glue gun, we pieced together this colonial girl costume. It's certainly not close to being authentic, and I am aware that colonial women weren't running around in short-sleeved dresses, but I have no idea how to make a sleeve, and the girlie is very happy, which is the most important thing

Next up, the "colonial" quilt, which will be a very loose translation. Construction paper has already been vetoed, so I'm looking at using felt squares.

Hermit Crab

No hiding in the shell for this curious hermit crab. He posed for quite a few pictures and didn't go back into his shell until he was placed into the tidepool.

Snake Crochet

I started the pattern in Mr. Funky's book, but changed it along the way to make it smaller. I think the original pattern is about 40 inches long. The one I made is about 20 inches. It's all single crochet in the round.

Plankton

Saw it here, and had to make it for the shouting boy.

Insects in "amber"

These were made for a school project. Liquid resin was mixed with dye to get an amber shade, then poured into plastic bowls which served as molds. They were done in layers, with the plastic insects going onto the semi-set first pour of resin. I advise doing this outside, because it stinks real bad!
